Einbürgerungstest: society, work, religion and the EU
This is the part of the catalogue about ordinary life: who raises children and who schools them, how social insurance is paid for, what religious freedom looks like in practice, and what the European Union is to Germany.
What this deck teaches
The society questions are the ones with the least memorisation and the most judgement. Several describe a small situation — a neighbour, a landlord, a boss, a bus route being cancelled — and ask what you can actually do about it. The answer is usually the ordinary civic one, and getting a feel for that tone is half of passing this section.
The economy questions are concrete: which insurance covers what, who pays for it, what the social market economy means, what a works council is for. The Europe questions cover the EU's institutions, the euro, freedom of movement, and the treaties Germany signed.
Religion and culture sit here too, including the questions on Jewish communal life in Germany and on what antisemitic behaviour is. Those are answered the same way as everything else in this deck: out loud, in your own voice, until the answer is yours.
How to study for the Einbürgerungstest with VoiceCards
- Listen through a section first. Open the deck in Listen mode and let it read question then answer, hands-free. Before you start testing yourself it helps to have simply heard the material once — the questions are long and the answers are short, and hearing that shape is half of following them under pressure.
- Say the answer, do not pick it. Switch to Speak mode. You get the question with no options, and you say the answer out loud. This is harder than a multiple-choice app and that is the point: recognising the right option is a different skill from producing it, and only one of them survives a bad night's sleep.
- Twenty or thirty a day. The federal set is a few weeks of short daily sessions, not one weekend. Spacing is what makes this stick, and it costs nothing — the deck plays hands-free while you are doing something else anyway.
- Add your own state at the end. Three of your 33 questions come from your Bundesland. Do the federal material first, then the state deck — it is short, and by then you will recognise the pattern the state questions follow.
