What this deck teaches
Propagation and antennas are often taught as separate chapters, but the exam connects them constantly. Band choice, polarization, antenna length, feed line loss and terrain all affect whether another station hears you.
The deck covers radio wave behavior, VHF and UHF paths, HF propagation, sporadic E, aurora, meteor scatter, antenna types, polarization, impedance, standing wave ratio, coaxial cable and common connectors.
This deck belongs to a 397 text-card set built from the public domain NCVEC 2026 to 2030 Technician question pool, valid from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2030. The set omits 12 diagram questions that require the official visual references. VoiceCards is not affiliated with NCVEC or the FCC.
How to study propagation and antennas
- Pair each band with a path. Say which propagation mode is likely and what limits it before revealing the answer.
- Sketch with your hands. Use a quick gesture for polarization, radiation direction and antenna orientation while answering.
- Link loss to the whole system. Study feed line, connector, impedance and standing wave ratio cards together.
- Compare nearby choices. Repeat questions whose options name similar bands or propagation effects until the conditions are distinct.
