65/20 Special Consideration: the 20 questions for older applicants
If you are 65 or older and have been a lawful permanent resident for 20 years or more, you do not have to study all 128 questions. USCIS marks 20 of them with an asterisk, asks you 10 of those, and you need 6 correct. This deck holds exactly those 20.
What this deck teaches
The 65/20 special consideration is the single biggest reduction in workload available on the civics test: twenty questions instead of a hundred and twenty-eight. You may also take the civics test in the language of your choice, so you can study the wording in English while planning to answer in another language.
Every card here is one of the asterisked questions from the official USCIS list, paired with an accepted answer. Because the set is small, a full Listen pass takes only a few minutes — short daily repetitions over a couple of weeks are more than enough.
All USCIS test material is a work of the U.S. government and free to use. Answers that name a current officeholder, or that depend on the state you live in, change over time — check uscis.gov/citizenship/testupdates and your own state before your interview.
How to study 65/20 special consideration with VoiceCards
- Listen through the whole set first. Open the deck in Listen mode and let it read each question and then the answer. Hearing the officer's question in your ear, hands-free on a commute or while cooking, is the closest thing to the real interview you can get before you sit in the room.
- Answer out loud, not in your head. Switch to Speak mode. See only the question, say the answer aloud, then reveal the card. The civics test is oral — the officer asks and you answer by speaking — so practicing silently trains the wrong skill.
- Short daily sets, not one long cram. Ten or fifteen questions a day beats one marathon session. Spread the deck over the weeks before your interview and you will still have the answers on the day.
- Loop the ones that come out shaky. Star anything you hesitate on and give it an extra Listen pass the next morning. A question you can answer cleanly three days running is one you can stop studying.
