California CDL air brakes test, out loud
The air brakes test is almost entirely parts, pressures and procedure. This deck holds Section 5 end to end — what each component does, the limit that applies to it, and the order of the inspection — so the numbers get drilled the way you will have to produce them.
What this deck teaches
Section 5 is short and dense. It names the compressor, governor, reservoirs, valves, spring brakes and ABS, gives each one a job, and attaches a pressure or a measurement to most of them. Then it describes the inspection: what you check, in what order, and what reading tells you to stop.
The numbers are the whole test, and several of them look alike on purpose. Applied leakage and static leakage each come as a set of three limits keyed to how many vehicles are in the combination, sitting two pages apart in the handbook. Reading them, they blur. Saying them, keyed to their condition, is what separates them.
This deck was built one fact per card for exactly that reason: each limit is asked with the condition that makes it the right answer, so you never learn a number without learning when it applies.
How to study the air brakes test with VoiceCards
- Listen through a section before you drill it. Open the deck in Listen mode and let it read each question and then the answer. The handbook is dense and reads slowly; hearing a section straight through on a drive gives you the shape of it before you start testing yourself on the details.
- Answer out loud, not in your head. Switch to Speak mode. See only the question, say the answer aloud, then reveal the card. Saying a number wrong is obvious the moment you hear yourself do it, and silent reading hides exactly the mistakes the test punishes.
- Twenty a day beats one long cram. Section 5 is small enough to finish quickly and dense enough to punish rushing. Twenty a day covers it in under three weeks with room to repeat the pressures.
- Loop the numbers that come out shaky. Star anything you hesitate on and give it an extra Listen pass the next morning. Numbers are where this test is won and lost, and a limit you half-remember is worse than one you know you have to look up.
