Spanish verbs out loud: present tense and the perfect
A verb list that gives you only the infinitive teaches you the one form you rarely say. This deck pairs each verb with the él form and the participle, so the two tenses you need first come out of your mouth together.
What this deck teaches
Spanish conjugation is regular enough that tables feel easy and speech still comes out wrong. The gap is that a table is something you read, and conjugation is something you have to produce fast enough to keep a sentence moving. Saying "él habla, él ha hablado" as one unit, dozens of times, closes that gap in a way that reading the table again does not.
The third person singular earns its place as the drill form: it carries a sentence with no pronoun needed, and it is where most irregular stems show themselves. Pairing it with the participle covers the present and the perfect at once — between them they handle most of what a beginner actually wants to say about now and about what has just happened.
Every form here is derived from the conjugation rules in code, with the genuine irregulars listed explicitly and checked against a corpus of human-written Spanish. Nothing was typed from memory, so a deck this size does not carry a hundred chances to teach you a wrong form.
How to drill Spanish verbs with VoiceCards
- Produce both forms every time. You see "to speak — hablar" and say "él habla, él ha hablado". Say both even when the verb is easy; the point is that they should stop being two separate retrievals.
- Let the irregulars come up in the mix. Do not separate irregular verbs into their own session. They are irregular precisely because they are common, and meeting them mixed in with the regular ones is closer to how you will meet them in speech.
- Listen on a loop to hear the pattern. In Listen mode the -ar, -er and -ir patterns start sounding like three tunes rather than three rules. That is the point at which you stop deriving forms and start recognising them.
