Memorize Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow): recite the Quran by heart
Surah Al-Baqarah (البقرة, "The Cow") is a Medinan surah of 286 verses — one of the longest in the Quran. The deck splits it one ayah per card so a daily portion is something you can actually set.
What this deck teaches
Hifz — memorizing the Quran — is done in Arabic, by hearing and repeating the exact wording, ayah after ayah. Surah Al-Baqarah is one of the longest in the Quran at 286 verses; people work through it over months, not weeks. One card per ayah lets you take a fixed daily portion and, just as importantly, keep revising everything already behind you.
It is a Medinan surah, at number 2 in the mushaf. Medinan surahs generally run to longer ayat and more sustained passages, so the units you memorize are bigger and the phrasing inside each ayah is worth slowing down for.
It is the longest surah in the Quran, and the deck is correspondingly the largest in this library — worth knowing before you start rather than after. One ayah per card: reference on the front, Arabic on the back for the app to recite, English kept as a separate note. The split matters — mixing scripts in one field is what breaks Arabic text-to-speech. Arabic text is provided by the Tanzil Project (CC BY 3.0); the English is Abdullah Yusuf Ali's translation (public domain).
How to memorize Surah Al-Baqarah with VoiceCards
- Hear the Arabic on a loop. Open the deck in Listen mode and let it play the reference, then the Arabic ayah, on a loop. Hearing Surah Al-Baqarah hands-free — commuting, cooking, walking — builds the cadence before you ever try to recite it.
- Recite from the reference. Switch to Speak mode. See only the reference, recite the ayah from memory, then reveal the card and check every word. The English note is there when you want the meaning, and out of the way when you do not.
- A portion a day, and revise behind you. At 286 verses this is a months-long deck. A fixed daily portion plus a standing revision of what is behind you is the only approach that finishes; racing the front and never looking back does not.
- Loop the ones that slip. Star the ayat that come out shaky and give them their own short Listen loop the next morning. An ayah you can recite cleanly from the reference three days running is one you own.
