California CDL knowledge test decks (Class A)

One deck per written test, extracted from the official California Commercial Driver Handbook: general knowledge, air brakes, and combination vehicles. Those three are what a Class A applicant sits.

Most CDL study material is a multiple-choice quiz, which trains you to recognize an answer rather than produce one. These decks ask the question and wait for you to say the answer — and the skills test that follows the written ones is itself spoken, conducted in English in front of an examiner, so practising out loud is not a gimmick here.

The three decks are not interchangeable. General knowledge is the wide one everybody takes; air brakes is short, dense and almost entirely numbers; combination adds the second air system and the coupling procedure. Air brakes and combination are worth studying together, in that order, because Section 6 assumes Section 5.
